Hoover Command Hueytown in 35-0 Victory

0 voted vote

Only two games into the season, Hoover High School kicked off their Class 6A, Region 5 play with a commanding 35-0 victory over Hueytown.

Jack Hutcheson, a junior, guided the Buccaneers with 100 passing yards in 8-of-13 attempts and 29 rushing yards.  Junior running back Bradrick Shaw started the scoring with a 1-yard rush into the end zone to complete a 5-play, 47-yard drive in the Hoover’s very first possession.  The teams 35 points came from five touchdowns from five different players, including a 52-yard connection from Hutcheson to junior receiver Alex Elam.

Arguably more impressive than Hoover’s offensive display was the Buccaneers’ lockdown defense.  Defending state champs held the Hueytown Golden Gophers to only 97 offensive yards, in the entire game.  Junior Jaysen Cook-Calhoun led the defense, marking his first career touchdown on a 20-yard interception return.

All in all, the Hoover Buccaneers displayed talent on both sides of the ball.  The young talent of the juniors shows the team’s ability for this year and years to come.  Currently, Hoover sits in the 15th rank on DigitalSports National Football Ranking

and is only looking up.

Hoover High School next faces Jackson-Olin on Friday, September 13th at 7:00 PM

Key Players:

Jack Hutcheson- 8-13 for 100 passing yards, 29 rushing yards

Jaysen Cook-Calhoun- 1 INT, 1 TD
